The Homestead Garden

Maranup Ford

The gardens are worth visiting in all seasons, visitors are particularly awed by the wonderful Autumn displays and the profusion of colours in Spring.

The main garden covers 2 hectares. Starting at the riverbank parkland then on to the homestead where the formal beds reflect the era of the house. From there the garden “rooms” extend into corridors of bird habitats that reach beyond the Caravan Park.

The eclectic nature of the garden is highlighted by the deciduous foliage colours in Autumn and the new growth and flowers of the Australian natives in Spring. This mix of deciduous trees is complimentary to the native species that make ideal habitat for birdlife.

The extended garden was burnt by bushfire in December 2003 and has since regenerated, been modified and expanded. All of the trees in the Caravan Park have been planted since this devastating fire.

For most people the chance to spend some time strolling through the gardens or enjoying the strategical placed seating, suitable for contemplation or observing the prolific birdlife, is a delight. Keen gardeners are welcome to speak to Hugh and Melva to find out more about the history of the gardens and the species included.

Wedding and events have been held in the garden since the 1920’s and we welcome your enquiries.

Garden visitors are welcome. Please phone first to check for opening days. Groups welcome by appointment. Gold coin donation appreciated.
